Greg Hurd, CPP, has been appointed to the position of 2016 president for the ASIS International Professional Certification Board. As an active member of the board for five years, Hurd has been instrumental in the development of board certifications for security professionals.
Since 1977, ASIS security certifications have set the standard for professional excellence. Recognized worldwide, the Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), and Physical Security Professional (PSP) credentials provide objective proof of professional knowledge and experience.
Hurd brings considerable experience in corporate security to this position. Currently, he is Head of Security—North America for Statoil (USA). Based between Calgary, Alberta, and Houston Texas, Greg’s responsibilities focus on the company’s security management program, investigations, threat assessment, liaison, information protection and security awareness programs. He also provides advice on physical security safeguards for the various business areas.
Augmenting his professional commitments, Hurd has participated in related volunteer activities throughout his career. He joined ASIS in 1994 and held officer positions at the ASIS chapter and regional levels. He was also past chairman of the National Energy Security Professionals network. Based on his contributions to energy infrastructure security, Hurd was a two-time recipient of a volunteer recognition award from a major energy sector industry association.
In addition to a 23-year career in the energy sector, Hurd served for 14 years with the Prince Albert Police Force. As a senior non-commissioned officer, he contributed to patrol operations, criminal youth investigations, and community relations. He currently volunteers with the Calgary Stampede.
Committed to life-long learning, Hurd has been a frequent guest lecturer on security management and policing at post-secondary institutions. He holds a Master of Science degree in the study of Security and Risk Management from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom (UK), a certificate in Occupational Health and Safety from the University of Alberta, and is a Fellow of the UK’s Security Institute.
