ASIS International held its 5th Middle East Security Conference & Exhibition on 16-18 February 2014 at the InterContinental Dubai Festival City. ASIS Middle East 2014 took place under the patronage of His Excellency Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Minister of Economy of the United Arab Emirates and under the honorary chairmanship of His Excellency Lt. Gen. Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and Public Security. The event gathered a record attendance of 566 senior security professionals from 32 countries.
On Sunday 16 February, the programme started with a workshop on Security Risks in Emerging Markets followed by a Welcome Drink in the exhibition area.
On 17 February, His Excellency Abdulla Sultan Alfan Alshamsi, Assistant Undersecretary for Industrial Affairs of the United Arab Emirates opened the conference and exhibition behalf of the Minister of Economy of the United Arab Emirates. The opening took place in the presence of His Excellency Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, General Commander of the Dubai Police, who attended on behalf of the honorary chairman of the conference, His Excellency Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and General Security
The conference continued with the keynote presentation of Abdulrahman Wuhaib, Senior Vice President, Downstream of Saudi Aramco who spoke about the mitigation of 21st century threats for resilience and continuity.
On the second day, Professor Dr. Martin Gill, Criminologist and Managing Director of Perpetuity Research & Consultancy International held an impressive keynote presentation explaining how offenders get around security measures.
The conference was closed by Prof. Dr. Leonard Yong, Senior Consultant of EuroMaTech Training & Management Consultancy who spoke about the application of emotional excellence at the workplace.
The conference also featured 33 high-level educational sessions provided by high-level speakers that included Alanood Alrabiah, Business Analyst of Saudi Aramco (KSA) on Bringing the Organization into the Security Continuity Mindset, Torsten Wolf, Group Head of Crime and Fraud Prevention of Zurich Insurance Company (Switzerland) on A Framework For Managing Crime and Fraud, Dominique Woloch, Regional Security Director of Sanofi (UAE) on Counterfeit Medicines, a New Threat for Generations, Lieutenant Commander Peter Harriman, of the UK Marine Trade Operations (UKMTO) (UAE), , as well as Simon Howse, Director of Security, Middle East and Africa of Marriott International (UAE) on Crisis Management - A Crisis Management Cast Study of Egypt and Libya - Marriott International.
In addition, sessions designed especially for Chief Security Officers (CSOs) were organised by the CSO Roundtable, the ASIS forum for the most senior security professionals from the largest and most influential organisations in the world.
The event also featured an exhibition where 45 sponsors, exhibitors, media and supporting organisations presented their products and services to security professionals.
