ASIS International and Northeastern University Partner to Launch New Executive Education Program for Security Managers

Alexandria, Va 2011-01-03

ASIS International (ASIS), the leading organization for security professionals, and Northeastern University, a private research university, announce the introduction of Business Concepts for the Effective Security Manager—a four-day executive education program for mid-to-upper level security managers. Developed specifically to address core business fundamentals, the new certificate program will be offered in March and October of 2011 in Boston, MA.

Content for the new program draws from Northeastern’s graduate curriculum and includes six, half-day sessions on topics such as finance, negotiation, marketing, and strategic thinking, as well as decision-making and change implementation. The program concludes with a one-day case study.

“For security managers looking to build a better understanding of foundational business concepts and how they can be applied to advance the security program within an organization, this program is ideal,” stated ASIS President Raymond T. O’Hara, CPP. “Attendees will gain new perspectives and the ability to confidently formulate and ‘sell’ their departmental plans to their line counterparts.”

ASIS member and former security practitioner, Christopher Walker, heads the seasoned faculty team assembled by Northeastern for the ASIS program. Other members of the team were selected to develop and teach this program based on their prior experience in business and in security management.

“Many security professionals come to the business world from the military or law enforcement and, consequently, lack actual business experience.  Other security professionals may have been working in business, but often lack formal business education.  In both cases, the learning curve can be steep, the challenges many, and success more limited than had been hoped,” stated Christopher Walker, Executive Professor of Strategy with the College of Business Administration at Northeastern University. “In keeping with the desire of ASIS to provide security professionals with uniquely informative but challenging management development, Northeastern University’s College of Business Administration has created this program offering well-grounded practical business tools for those who wish to develop or expand their business knowledge and further their success.”

This program expands the scope of ASIS executive education offerings—joining the Wharton/ASIS Program for Security Executives, established in 2004, and Effective Management for Security Professionals, a new international program developed in partnership with Madrid-based IE Business School.

The registration fee for ASIS members is $3,300; nonmembers’ registration fee is $3,450.
