Effective Management for Security Professionals

03 - 06 June 2014

Visit the IE Business School Programme website to register.

Effective Management for Security Professionals is an international executive programme specifically designed to assist mid-to-senior security managers in developing their business acumen in order to become more effective managers and leaders within their organisation. Developed in partnership with IE Business School in Madrid, one of Europe’s leading business schools, the four-day program is delivered by IE Business School’s faculty members, all practitioners and experts in their respective fields.

Since every organizational decision affects the bottom line, it is essential for security managers to have the knowledge necessary to ensure adequate budgetary and organizational support for the security function. Explore core business concepts and develop your business acumen in this custom-designed program. Interactive discussions, case studies, and teamwork expose the frameworks and tools required to become a more effective manager and leader within your organization. Develop a salient voice in business matters and succeed in a competitive, international business environment.

An IE Business School/ASIS certificate of participation will be awarded upon successful completion of the program.

“First and foremost as a security professional, I need to be better at speaking the language of executives and that means I need to be conversant in financial terms, strategic terms, etc. In that sense, I’ve been helped to achieve that throughout this course.”

Johan Ingvarson
Safety & Security Director, ICS, Sweden

During this programme participants will develop a sound understanding of how to:

  • Harness the dynamics of business fundamentals and the business challenges today’s organisations are facing.
  • Develop a strategic understanding of the role of security management as an enabler of business success.
  • Present a sound business case for their security initiatives to ensure funding.
  • Become effective leaders in a non-hierarchical environment and across functional boundaries.

 Who Should Attend

This programme has been designed to sharpen the experienced mid-to-senior level security manager’s management skills, enhance his or her strategic insights and develop the necessary business acumen to guarantee the success of his/her organisation’s security plan.

The programme attracts a highly diverse and qualified audience that spans a wide range of business titles within the Security Management function. The resulting input allows participants to build upon the experience and expertise of one another.

Additionally, in order to continue networking and sharing with fellow participants after their experience in Madrid and at IE, we will launch a virtual online campus which will allow executives to reconnect, recharge and recommit to their strategic and personal development plan.

 Program Overview

This international executive programme has been designed to push participants beyond simply acquiring new knowledge and skills. It is built around interactive discussions, case studies, and teamwork, all of which are intended to expose participants to the frameworks and tools they will need to succeed in an international and competitive business environment.

  • Setting the Context: A Changing Business Reality

Examine today’s transforming socio-economic landscape and its impact on your organisation and the security management role at large to glean insights into tomorrow’s challenges and opportunities.

  •  Creating the Strategic Mindset

Develop an understanding of the strategic core concepts and analytical tools needed to cultivate a “strategic mindset” that will allow you to create value and competitive advantage within your role as security manager.

  • The Application of Financial Information

Grasp the latest concepts in financial management and how these tools may help any manager, not just financial specialists, make sounder business decisions, with a special emphasis on budgeting, valuation and value creation.

  • Building the Business Case for Security Initiatives

Apply the learning to your own business scenarios. Executives will be confronting their specific issues and concerns in peer groups to evaluate how they can build the business case for security initiatives in order to secure funding for their projects.

  • Leading in Uncertainty

Understand the impact of constant changes in the environment on the individual and the organisation and explore key parameters and tools to assess and manage change. Determine change mindsets, identify resistance barriers, and tackle them on a one-to-one approach and in the organisational setting.

  • Corporate Governance and Ethics

Understand inherent tradeoffs and tensions that managers face as they work to deal with corporate governance issues, ethics and compliance.

  • Bringing it all Together

The final session of the programme will require executives to integrate and apply the acquired knowledge and skills to a specific business problem. Participants will work in groups and present their recommendations to their peers and programme faculty.
