In the second webinar in the ASIS CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) webinar series, the final four of the seven principles of CPTED design will be illustrated: 1) image and/maintenance; 2) activity program support; 3) target hardening; 4) geographical juxtaposition.  The webinar will include a discussion regarding the three "Ds", Design, Designation & Definition as described in Tim Crowe's seminal work Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design.  These principles will be updated to present 21st century strategies or third generation CPTED. Important new concepts, including the psychological properties of colors, will be addressed. 

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • List the seven principles of CPTED
  • Implement CPTED concepts as a crime prevention tool. 
  • Take a proactive approach to manipulate the physical environment
  • Describe the relationship between design and human behavior

 Presenters

​​Lawrence J. Fennelly has written over 35 books on various security topics and is the editor of the third edition of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, which he completed in 2013.  He was instrumental in the establishment of the Security Book of the Year Award and is the recipient of a 2015 ASIS President's Award.  Larry is a member of the ASIS International School Safety and Security Council.  His recent books (with Marianna Perry) are titled, The Handbook for School Safety and Security (K-12) & Security for Colleges and Universities.  Physical Security: 150 Things You Should Know, 2nd Edition and Security in 2025, 2nd Edition were published in late 2016.

Marianna A. Perry, CPP has 35+ years of progressive experience in law enforcement, physical security, safety and loss control.  She is a safety and security consultant and is a frequent presenter at the annual ASIS International Seminar.  She is also adj​unct faculty at Sullivan University in the Department of Justice and Public Safety Administration. Marianna is a former trooper and detective with the Kentucky State Police and was previously the Director of the National Crime Prevention Institute (NCPI) at the University of Louisville. She is a member of the ASIS International School Safety and Security Council as well as the Women in Security Council.  Her recent books (with Larry Fennelly) are titled, The Handbook for School Safety and Security (K-12) & Security for Colleges and Universities.  Physical Security: 150 Things You Should Know, 2nd Edition and Security in 2025, 2nd Edition were published in late 2016.

 Cancellation and Transfer Policy

​For a full refund or transfer credit, written requests must be received by ASIS at least three business days before the start date of the prog​ram. Those received less than three days prior will be charged a $25 cancellation/transfer fee.
