This program explores the opportunities that exist for school administrators to capitalize on advance student intelligence.
Participants will learn how valuable social media activity has become to the Generation Y students. They will be made aware of social media as an intelligence tool, not just a fun-time experience of photos and texting among kids.
- They will learn which social media sites are most utilized; the differences between the social media platforms and methods for tracking student activity on social media sites.
- School security practitioners / administrators will learn how and why the legal system protects their organizations when monitoring their students.
- The latest studies will be reviewed: the percentage of crimes committed when administrators could have been aware. How student profiling fails miserably in trying to protect schools and creating fake accounts may not only be a civil violation, it is costly and risky for school district.
About the speakers:
Bruce A. Canal, CPP
Retired from the Indiana State Police and now Senior Administrator/Director of the Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, FL, Bruce is an expert in school security and social media. Bruce holds a Master’s Degree in Business and BS degree in Criminal Justice; he is also a Certified Protection Professional through ASIS International. He has worked as a security consultant for hundreds of schools over the last 20 years.
Stephen Hollowell, CPP
A successful tenure in law enforcement with New Scotland Yard, followed by Security Directorships at prominent institutions in New York City, as well as senior leadership roles in corporate security. He holds a BS degree (Summa Cum Laude) in Security Management and is a Certified Protection Professional. Mr. Hollowell has developed countless total security programs for Healthcare and Higher Educational Facilities, cultural institutions and Corporate America. He is also the VP for the Crime Loss and Crime Prevention Council for ASIS International and is the Founder and Chief Consultant of Boutique security company based in New York.
