Mall of America (MOA) has been utilizing the Behavior Detection & Assessment (BDA) method for over ten years. BDA is a field-tested, proactive security solution that is significantly more cost effective than traditional security systems designed to protect against terrorist attacks.

This webinar describes the application and results of this proactive security method at MOA over the past ten years.  BDA was developed and refined over the past 30 years by the Israel Security Agency. Mall of America’s BDA program was created by adapting the Israeli model to the operational environment, and challenges, of a shopping/entertainment/tourist destination in the United States. The BDA program is built on a proven fact that appropriately trained people can proactively identify high-risk individuals by detecting suspicion indicators consistent with harmful intentions, and by using structured interview techniques to determine threat potentials. Through case studies and implementation steps, webinar attendees will learn the concept, benefits, and application of the BDA system at MOA as a potential method to add to their existing security arsenal.

Learning Objective(s):

  • Identify the core principles behind the behavior detection method at Mall of America
  • Learn the implementation and development steps necessary for a BDA program to be successful in “soft target,” open-to-the-public environments
  • Calculate the benefits of the MOA BDA program for your environment
