Am I required to take the ASIS Certificate Exam for a Certificate Program?

No, you do not have to take the ASIS Certificate Exam. The ASIS Certificate Exam offers an added value by providing evidence of your level of knowledge on a specific topic.

Will I receive CPE credits for taking the ASIS Certificate Exam?

No, you will not receive additional CPE credit for taking the exam. Each Certificate Program awards CPE credits (based on a 50-minute hour).

What are the prerequisites for taking an ASIS Certificate Exam?

To take an ASIS Certificate Exam you must first register for and attend an ASIS Certificate Program. Some programs may have additional requirements such as readings.

After attending a Certificate Program, how long will it be before I can take an ASIS Certificate Exam?

After you have attended a Certificate Program, ASIS education staff will send your attendance and CPE credit information to the membership database. This manual process generally takes two weeks (ten business days). However, during holidays or other especially busy times of the year, it may take longer. You will receive an email announcement when the ASIS Certificate Exam is open for enrollment. Only individuals who have attended the program will be permitted to enroll in the exam.

What is the fee for an ASIS Certificate Exam?

The fee for an ASIS Certificate Exam is $75.

How can I purchase the exam from the ASIS store?

After you have attended an ASIS Certificate Program, you will receive an email announcement that the exam is open for enrollment. This email will contain a link to register for the exam.

  1. Visit the program registration page for each Certificate Program. The program page will contain a link to register for the exam.
  2. Visit the ASIS Certificate Exam page and click on the title of the specific ASIS Certificate Exam you would like to take.

What is the process for taking the ASIS Certificate Exam?

There are four steps in the ASIS Certificate Exam process:

  • Step 1: Enroll and attend an ASIS Certificate Program.
  • Step 2: Attendance and credit information is entered into the ASIS membership database by education staff.
  • Step 3: On notification that the Certificate Exam is available for enrollment, you may purchase the exam through the ASIS store.
  • Step 4: After purchasing the exam, log on to the learning management system to take the exam.

How can I purchase the Certificate Exam?

Go to the ASIS store and select the Certificate Exam of your choice.

Enter your ASIS password and your email address (User Name). If you do not have an ASIS password or have forgotten it, you may call all membership services at 703-519-6200.

How many questions are on an ASIS Certificate Exam?

Each ASIS Certificate Exam is developed by the instructor/program developer. The exam covers the knowledge that the instructor/ program developer believes to be of the greatest importance. Since each subject area differs, the number of questions on the Certificate Exam will differ. At this time, Certificate Exams range from 25-100 questions, depending on the program developer.

How much time will I have to take an ASIS Certificate Exam?

As each ASIS Certificate Exam is developed by the instructor/program developer. The number of questions differs by instructor. Each program developer sets a time limit that they feel is appropriate for the exam.

Can I take an ASIS Certificate Exam in another language?

No.  Exams are currently offered in English only.

Can I save and return during an ASIS Certificate Exam?

Each program developer/instructor sets the parameters for the program's Certificate Exam. Some instructors allow the test taker to save and return. Others require that the test taker complete the exam in one sitting. When you launch the test, you will see specific instructions for your test. Your instructor will also list the parameters of the exam in the classroom session so that you can be prepared for the exam.

What is the format for the questions on an ASIS Certificate Exam?

The exams are in multiple choice or true/false format.

When will I receive my exam scores?

The learning management system automatically scores the exams and the report is visible at the end of the exam.

Can I review the questions and answers after taking the Certificate Exam?

Yes, the learning management system allows the instructor/test developer to set this feature. Some instructors will allow you to review only the questions on the exam; others will allow you to review both the questions and answers on the exam; others will allow you to review only the incorrect questions. The review feature is set at the discretion of the instructor.

What is the passing score for an ASIS Certificate Exam?

The instructor/test developer sets the passing score for the ASIS Certificate Exam. Currently, passing scores range for 65% to 80%. When you launch the exam, you will see the passing score for the exam. Also, your instructor will inform you as to the passing score when you attend the Certificate Program.

Can I retake an ASIS Certificate Exam if I do not pass?

Although it is left to the discretion of the instructor/test developer, most instructors allow at least one or two exam retakes to allow you to study and learn from the exam. Your instructor will inform you as to the number of retakes allowed when you attend the Certificate Program. When you purchase the exam, you will see this information listed.
