Book Review: Yes, S.I.R.: The Security Influencer’s Guide to Success Using Strategy, Intelligence, and Relationships

Chuck Andrews, CPP, tells it like it is. I briefly was introduced to Andrews at a GSX event many years ago in what can only be described as a passing-by type of introduction. I didn’t have the opportunity to have a deep conversation with him, because—as is evident by his technique outlined in the book and the acknowledgements of colleagues in this publication—Andrews is connected to a lot of people, and at an event such as GSX every few seconds was an interruption by another colleague Andrews knows from some local or distant corner of the industry.

In his book, Yes, S.I.R.: The Security Influencer’s Guide to Success Using Strategy, Intelligence, and Relationships, Andrews offers a clear strategy for professionals to advance, no matter where they are in their career. It is a simple technique, but that does not mean it’s easy. There is work to be done. As Andrews states, there is a lot of maintenance to be done for this technique for you to work towards a greater potential in yourself and your network.

Andrews demonstrates his technique through examples during the course of his own career and from those he is connected with and assisted.

In reading his book, there’s no hidden formula and you don’t have to read between the lines. There is no sales pitch to enroll or buy some service to get the final product. The technique is straightforward: Develop a strategy that is built for you, gather your intelligence, and build your relationships. And in doing so, results will follow. Andrews offers a simple yet strong technique for any new or seasoned law enforcement or security professional to utilize.
