October 2017 Industry News: Supporting the Troops

Podwidz, Poland, is the site of a new 1,000-person turnkey military camp, which was deployed in just 18 days last summer. The U.S. Army Europe, along with the Polish Ministry of National Defense, Allied Forces, and NATO chose the site, which will be used for reception, staging, and onward movement integration.

Alaska Structures, Inc., in collaboration with KBR, produced, shipped, and deployed the base. The military shelter systems provided by Alaska Structures are equipped with lighting, electrical, and power distribution systems, as well as an energy-saving insulation system. The camp includes billeting shelters, containerized shower and latrine facilities, water systems, kitchen and dining facilities, and generators. The gym and a few other facilities have hard flooring.

For the past three years, the U.S. military has been a growing presence in Poland. The Army views Poland as the strategic hub from which friendly forces can move with speed in the event of a crisis along NATO’s eastern edge.
