August 2015 Industry News

Campus Safety

The University of South Australia recently implemented the SafeZone distributed command-and-control solution from CriticalArc to improve campus safety, situational awareness, and emergency notification and response. The fast-growing institution is just 24 years old and has more than 34,000 students. The university needed a solution that would work across its multiple campuses—from inner-city to outback locations—and keep its security team informed at all times.

Students and staff can use an intuitive app to call for immediate assistance, first aid, or general help. The app pinpoints the exact location and shares situational awareness across the whole security team, giving responders access to live operational intelligence and incident visibility in real time.

SafeZone also provides mass notification, allowing security staff to send alerts to all staff and students, or to tailor alerts to specific groups or locations. Shown here (inset): Campus Facilities Manager Dominic Marafioti explains the system to a student.
