The International Foundation for Protection Officers (IFPO) recently announced a global Exploring the Modern Role and Job Complexity of Security Officers research study to help better understand the state of the industry.

Sometimes referred to as “guards,” officers are often an organization’s first line of defence. Despite the critical role that these individuals play in the protection of an enterprise’s assets, they are perhaps the most overlooked component of security operations. Like many aspects of security, officers are sometimes taken for granted when everything goes well.

This research will explore the breadth and depth of security officers’ responsibilities, including their training and effectiveness—examining similarities and differences across the globe. IFPO is seeking participants from Canada, Ecuador, India, Ireland, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, UK and the US to complete the online survey, which is geared towards officers themselves, not their managers. Please help spread the word.

The results may benefit the industry as a whole, to help shape the future of security through increased understanding and appreciation of security officers’ duties and can ultimately be used as the foundation to develop best practices.

To tackle this monumental task, IFPO has commissioned Perpetuity Research to conduct the study, and results will be available at Global Security Exchange 2021 in Orlando. IFPO thanks its sponsors and partners for making this research possible!

How can you help?

If you are a security manager, CSO, services provider, or other professional, please share details of this ground-breaking project with your network and encourage colleagues to ask their officers to complete the survey.

The project is currently in the data gathering stage - please distribute the survey to security officers and encourage their participation in the survey through May 31st.
