ASIS International is saddened to share news of the passing of Dr. Ona Ekhomu, CPP, PCI.

An ASIS member since 1986, Dr. Ekhomu was a strong advocate for strengthening security practice in Africa and around the globe. As a founding member of the Lagos, Nigera chapter in 1992, he joined volunteer leadership of the chapter soon afterward, serving as chapter chair for three years and as regional vice president (RVP) for the region for six years after that. Most recently, he served as a participant of ASIS International's Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Advisory Committee.

Dr. Ekhomu also demonstrated his dedication to security practice through his participation with the International Foundation of Protection Officers (IFPO) and his founding role in the Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria (AISSON).

Fellow ASIS International RVP and IFPO member Dr. Ron Martin, CPP, offers the following remembrance to Dr. Ekhomu:

"Dr. Ekhomu over the years introduced ASIS International and the IFPO to Nigeria and West African countries. We met many years ago at an ASIS event, and I was inspired by his dedication to enhance the recognition and professionalism of Nigeria's Security Officers. Through his school, he trained hundreds of officers. It did not stop there. He advocated for the certification of Nigeria's security professionals. He and his wife Victoria brought hundreds of West African security professionals to each ASIS Seminar/GSX for the past 20 plus years.

The industry has lost a titan to many an associate, and I lost a friend. My deepest condolences to Victoria, their children, and their grandchildren."

ASIS is thankful to Dr. Ekhomu for his dedication to and leadership within ASIS.
