Global Standards Initiative Volunteer Opportunities

Important information, read before proceeding to the volunteer form below:

ASIS International, the leading organization for security management professionals worldwide, has launched a global initiative through its Commission on Standards and Guidelines to meet the increasing movement towards the use of standards nationally and internationally. ASIS will provide the voice of security professionals to the process of developing voluntary standards in the security arena on a global basis.

The ASIS International Global Standards Initiative has as one of its cornerstones support for the development of international standards through the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). As a Category A Liaison member of the ISO technical group, ISO/TC 223: Societal Security, ASIS will promote a message that there is a need for business-friendly consensus-based voluntary international standards rather than a hodge-podge of national standards.

ASIS invites you to play a part in the creation of this future family of security, preparedness and continuity standards designed to support enhanced security management capabilities through technical, human, organization, operational, and management approaches as well as operational functionality and interoperability.

ASIS International will establish Work Groups and Task Groups as needed. ASIS Work Groups will serve as the ASIS Mirror Committee for work being conducted in ISO/TC 223 and CEN working groups. The ASIS Working Groups will initiate, comment on, and approve working drafts and proposals to provide an ASIS International consensus position on ISO and CEN documents. Subject matter experts will be tapped to participate as part of the ASIS International delegation to ISO/TC 223 and CEN meetings and in their working groups. It should be noted that the head of the ASIS International delegation at these meetings is the Commission Liaison for Standards.

ASIS International Task Groups will be created to develop draft documents, in collaboration with national standards bodies, to serve as the basis for submission to ISO/TC 223 for consideration as a New Work Item for an International Standard, ISO Publicly Available Specification (ISO/PAS), ISO Technical Specification (ISO/TS), or to be published as a multi-national document. Additionally, ASIS Task Groups will be established to support deliverables other than a standard, such as guidance, needs assessments and training materials.

The following list includes the names of existing ASIS Work Groups and Task Groups. Please read about each Work Group and Task Group and get involved in an area where your knowledge and expertise can be integral in the future of the security industry.
