Matching Scholarships

The ASIS Foundation matches one scholarship per chapter per year. Chapters providing scholarships receive one matching scholarship. The match is either dollar-for-dollar up to $500 per year for full-time students; or two for one up to $500 for non-student chapter members. The Foundation provides between 40-50 a year.

Endowed Scholarships

Permanent restricted accounts maintained by the Foundation for chapters. Chapters use the interest to provide scholarships. Seven chapter endowed funds currently exist.

Publications

Security Journal

The Security Journal is a peer reviewed, research publication in the broad field of assets protection. Created in 1989 with sponsorship by the ASIS Foundation, the Security Journal encourages the highest standards for scholarship, education and the distribution of relevant developments in the security industry.

Readings in Security Management

Written by Robert McCrie, PhD, CPP™, this textbook serves the interest of both the thoughtful practitioners and students within the undergraduate and graduate security management programs. The selection of readings has been shaped by both business and management programs, and programs of traditional security management and criminal justice. Topics covered include the legal aspect of security management, investigations, personnel, technical management, information protection, business intelligence, and more.

Seguridad Preventiva

A text book on physical security practices was translated into Spanish and distributed in Bolivia and through out South America. This was done as part of a project to help archeologists in Bolivia understand how to protect the invaluable artifacts in museums, churches, and archeological sites.

Ongoing Programs and Projects

Academic Practitioner Symposium

In association with the ASIS Council on Academic Programs in Colleges and Universities, the Academic/Practitioner Symposium is an annual event, gathering together leading practitioners and academics. The purpose is to identify and develop Business and Organizational Security Management curricula, reflecting the state of the art for practice in the security field.

Masters of Arts Degree in Security Management

Webster University and ASIS have cooperated in the development of the Masters of Arts Degree in Security Management, which is designed to provide graduate education relevant to success in the dynamic, demanding and developing field of security management.

Research Programs and Projects

Security Industry Survey

This is a comprehensive examination of the breadth, depth and scope of the entire security industry. In partnership with Eastern Kentucky University, the project will provide statistics and trends analysis that has not been done in 15 years.

Assessment of the Preparedness of Private Security in Shopping Malls to Address Terrorist Attack

In partnership with the Police Foundation, the project will look at the degree to which private security is up to the task of protecting the public from terrorist attacks. This study will include a legislative survey of state laws that regulate private security, an interview of state homeland security directors, a mail survey of mall heads of security, and lastly an identification of best practices being employed by mall security.

National Retail Security Survey

This study is intended to provide loss prevention executives with the most current market-specific information to assist in their continuing efforts to minimize inventory shrinkage and various other sources of financial loss. Funding for this project is generously provided by ADT, the sponsor since its inception, and by General Information Services, Inc.

ASIS/Purdue Information Security Survey

The ASIS International Foundation in cooperation with the Security Industry Association (SIA) and Shayne Bates of Koffel Associates, Inc. will be conducting a research study that will gain a greater understanding of the reason(s) that organizations choose to implement security programs without an appropriately scaled risk analysis, to identify the quantum of those who choose to proceed to implementation of a protection program without such analysis, and to scope the actual consequences of such actions.

Through the use of a survey to be conducted by SIA, participants will be asked to provide responses to questions regarding security enhancement implementation.

Securing Houses of Worship, Part Two

This is a collaboration of public and private sector resources that mobilize trained criminal justice students to go into the community to conduct security/safety surveys of houses of worship. Part one was a program for chapters to offer to local churches. Part two will take the next step and create security materials for the churches to use and standardize the assessment methodology.
