Kevin Sluka Receives First 2009 Timothy J. Walsh APC I Award
The
ASIS Foundation is pleased to announce Kevin Sluka of the ASIS Long
Island (N.Y.) Chapter as the winner of the prestigious Timothy J.
Walsh APC I Award. The Walsh Award pays for tuition, transportation,
hotel costs and course materials for the Asset Protection Course
I (APC I, Concepts and Methods), to be held March 16-19 in New Orleans.
Sluka is a security analyst in the Global Security Department of
Avon Products Inc. Prior to joining Avon, Kevin worked for AlliedBarton
Security Services as an account manager for the Metropolitan Transportation
Authority. He is a graduate of Molloy College in New York, with
a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. "I knew I wanted to
work in security after taking my first criminal justice class in
college," Sluka says. "Now that I am working in this field,
I believe professional development is one of the most important
aspects of career growth."
Candidates for the Walsh Award must be nominated by their ASIS
chapter, be members in good standing and have at least two years
of security experience. The award, introduced in 2004, recognizes
the efforts of individuals striving for excellence within the security
industry. Given twice a year, it is named in honor of Timothy J.
Walsh, CPP, one of the early pioneers of ASIS International who
served as the organization's president in 1964-1965.
