The Roy Bordes Award for Physical Security pays for a two-day, locally delivered physical security program for one chapter each year. Established in 2008, the award covers instructors, their travel and accommodations, and collateral materials. Meeting expenses will be the host chapter's responsibility.
Eligibility
All chapters are eligible, however, preference will be given to developing chapters working to expand their membership and education offerings. Chapters may submit only one application annually. Relatives of ASIS Foundation Board of Trustees are not eligible for the award.
Application Process
A chapter leader must mail or FAX a completed application, including a program proposal. No late or incomplete applications will be accepted. The winning chapter, in collaboration with ASIS Education staff, will develop the customized program. ASIS requires 90 days to develop and arrange the program.
The application period for the 2010 award is closed. Please return in the fall of 2010 to review 2011 application materials.
Criteria
The chapter must:
- Have a strong education program including, diverse and plentiful programs on the chapter calendar, and member attendance at ASIS International-sponsored programs
- Support the award by identifying an award champion, capacity to host the program, and a budget for on-site expenses
- Demonstrate a commitment to its own expansion, including ascending membership numbers and a strategic plan for continued growth
- Commit to hold the program within the award year
Selection Process
Foundation and Education staff will select finalists. The Foundation Board of Trustees will select the winner and determine program parameters. The winning chapter will be selected without regard to race, age, gender, religion, political beliefs, employment status, or any other factors that could constitute unfair or illegal discrimination.

Oldest Canadian Chapter Wins 2010 Roy Bordes Award for Physical Security
The 2010 Roy Bordes Award for Physical Security winner is the ASIS Edmonton and Northern Alberta Chapter (#156). The chapter plans to host a broad-based physical security workshop for its members and ASIS chapter members from neighboring provinces, as well as students and nonmember security practitioners throughout Canada. Proposed topics include areas of Facility Security Design, Managing the Physical Security Program or Applications and Technology.
