Giving to the Foundation
In order to support the various programs of the Foundation, substantial resources are needed from every available source. We cannot do what we do without a good measure of funding and support. Although ASIS assists the Foundation financially and in other ways, it is the responsibility of the Foundation to do much of the fundraising. In this section, the organized fundraising events of the foundation are explained. As a chapter liaison, your support and advocacy of these events are critical to their success and to the ability of the foundation to provide programs.
Personal Contributions
There is a simple and easy opportunity for individual members to support the Foundation each time they renew their membership. On the dues renewal form is a check off box to make an additional gift to the foundation. $25 or $50 may not seem significant, but with more than 35,000 members, it can add up quickly. Donations can be made at any time, and contribution forms, which can be photocopied, are included later in this section. Although this does not have any ASIS chapter connection, as the foundation liaison, you can make sure your members are aware of this simple way of giving.
Chapter Contributions
Chapter gifts are usually made once a year just prior to the Annual Seminar. All chapters who make a contribution are invited to attend an invitation-only reception prior to the Foundation dinner. This is known to be the most elegant affair at the Seminar. Forms for use by a chapter are also included here.
Corporate Contributions
The other major source of funding for the Foundation is corporate sponsorship.
It is not the responsibility of the chapter representatives to raise
money but if someone interested in partnering approaches you, it would
be very helpful to pass on the information to the staff at headquarters.
Corporate donation forms are also included in this section. Many times
corporate gifts come after some discussion and meetings between the
company and the organization to instill a measure of comfort that the
corporate funds are well spent. Many times a company may need to see
a copy of the tax exempt status letter that the IRS issues. Copies of
that letter can be requested from headquarters.
For a corporation to donate to the Foundation, there must be a value to their business. In addition to the privilege of advancing the industry, an association with the Foundation can create some valuable marketing opportunities for many companies. We have sponsorship packages available for a variety of amounts that can be tailored specifically for a corporation.
Fundraising Events
Most of our events are centered on the Annual Seminar where we are able to draw the most attention to our need. The major fundraising events are the Golf tournament and the Foundation Dinner. Just before the Dinner a special reception is held to recognize the chapters who have contributed to the Foundation in response to an annual appeal.
When the chapter receives the Foundation's annual appeal it gives you a chance to promote the Foundation, its programs, and the importance of member support.
