Dear Delegates,

In view of negative travel advisories for Bahrain issued by many countries on the morning of Saturday, 19 February, ASIS International was forced to cancel the 2nd ASIS International Middle East Security Conference and Exhibition scheduled to take place in Manama, Bahrain on 20-22 February 2011.

If we have not heard from you by 10 April, we will refund your payment automatically.

Bahrain Update - Feb 19, 2011 9:30 am ET

Dear Delegates,

We trust that you have received our earlier notification that the 2nd ASIS International Middle East Security Conference & Exhibition in Bahrain has been cancelled.

All delegates, sponsors and exhibitors will automatically receive a voucher for attendance of the following ASIS events:
- 2011 European Conference & Exhibition in Vienna
- 2011 Seminar & Exhibits in Orlando
- 2011 Asia-Pacific Conference & Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur
- 2012 Middle East Conference in Bahrain

Should you wish to receive a full refund of your payment, this is possible too. In this case, we ask you to inform us as soon as possible by sending an email to bahrain@asisonline.org.

For those delegates who are already in Bahrain, we are organising an open discussion and networking meeting at the Ritz Carlton from 14.00-16.00 on Sunday. We look forward to welcoming you there.

Please find below the most recent advice from the US Embassy:
The airport and causeway are open, although we have received reports of some individuals travelling from Saudi Arabia being turned away. Further demonstrations are expected to occur today in and around Manama which may cause traffic disruptions from time to time. The Ritz-Carlton and the surrounding area are safe. Ritz-Carlton staff is present at the airport to assist you with transportation to the hotel.

At this time, the U.S. Embassy Manama is revising its advice to US citizens in Bahrain to limit your movements, instead of just remaining in your residences. There are confirmed multiple reports of violent clashes between protestors and security forces in various parts of the city during the past five days. Spontaneous demonstrations and violence are expected throughout the next several days. There is no indication that westerners are being threatened or targeted.

We are receiving reports that demonstrations will occur after 15.00 local time in the areas surrounding Dana Mall, Bahrain Mall, Pearl Roundabout, and Salmaniya near the hospital. We are recommending that all US citizens should avoid those areas (highlighted below) and limit your movements.

If urgent medical care is required, suitable alternatives are listed below:
Bahrain Specialist Hospital - 1781-2111
Bahrain Defence Forces Hospital - 1765-9999
International Hosp - 1759-0495

We kindly ask delegates who are currently en route to or already in Bahrain, to let us know their whereabouts and travel plans urgently. We have staff onsite to help you. (Susan Melnicove +1 703 626 6926, Benedicte Losseau +32 478 602016 - bahrain@asisonline.org).

Bahrain Update - Feb 19, 2011 6:30 am ET
Dear Delegates,

During the night, in view of the continuing unrest, many countries have updated their travel advisories for Bahrain to negative. In view of this change, we have been forced to cancel the programme. Therefore, we no longer encourage you to travel to Bahrain and recommend that you cancel your travel.

We kindly ask delegates who are currently en route to or already in Bahrain, to let us know their whereabouts and travel plans urgently. We have staff onsite to help you. (Susan Melnicove +1 703 626 6926, Benedicte Losseau +32 478 602016 - bahrain@asisonline.org)

Bahrain Update - Feb 18, 2011 12:30 pm ET
Sources in Bahrain indicate that demonstrations are taking place in and around the city. This message is not intended to repeat what is in the media but to provide updated practical information to those trying to get to the venue.

Traffic flow is affected from time to time based on the situation. Currently the airport and the causeway to Saudi Arabia remain open and clear. The Ritz Carlton and the surrounding area are safe.

We are proceeding with the program as scheduled and we hope you will decide in favour of attending.

We will keep you updated of any developments.

Bahrain Update - Feb 18, 2011 9:30 am ET
We are happy to report that ASIS International staff and a few delegates have already arrived safely and easily in Bahrain.

In conversations with local experts who have first-hand knowledge of the problem areas, it is reported that everything is quiet at the moment in Manama. Business is operating as usual. We are therefore proceeding with preparations and have every intention to deliver the conference as planned.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide periodic updates.

Ritz-Carlton staff is present at the airport to assist you with transportation to the hotel.

Please note that the US State Department has NOT issued a negative travel advisory or travel warnings for Bahrain. We would encourage you to stay abreast of any updates through the US Embassy website and the website of your own embassy.

We look forward to welcoming you to Bahrain.

Best regards,
The ASIS team
