Introduction
Above are the rules and regulations pertaining to the formation of an ASIS chapter, as well as some general advice and guidelines to ensure a new chapter's success.

ASIS chapters are a very important link between the member and the organization. In fact, chapters provide the conduit through which many of ASIS' benefits are made available.

One of the main reasons for membership in ASIS International is to develop a network of colleagues and contacts within the security field for the exchange of information and experiences. Chapters provide these opportunities and offer members convenient, low-cost educational programs.

ASIS International Headquarters stands ready to assist in your efforts to form a new chapter. Likewise, so does the Senior Regional Vice President and Regional Vice President for your area. (To locate the region in which your area lies, see Procedures 3000).

I wish you every success in this endeavor. The strength of our organization lies in its chapters. Your interest in forming a chapter will ultimately result in our being better able to provide services to our entire membership and to increase the prestige of ASIS International and the security profession.

Sincerely,
Michael J. Stack
Executive Director

Important Chapter Responsibilities

  1. Hold regularly scheduled chapter meetings and notify members of those meetings at least 6 times a year.
  2. Keep minutes of all chapter meetings for a minimum of at least three years.
  3. Submit to Headquarters the Chapter Activity Report online (that you can access once approved as a chapter) promptly after each chapter meeting.
  4. Hold annual elections of officers and notify Headquarters of election results by completing the Chapter Questionnaire PDF and mailing it to Headquarters as soon as officers are elected. You may always send an addendum to HQ for additional committee officers at a later date.
  5. Keep Headquarters informed throughout the year if there are any replacements of chapter officers.
  6. Keep good financial records including information on chapter dues and any other income or expenditures and report monthly using the Chapter Activity Report online. A financial status report of the chapter must be submitted once a year to ASIS HQ. The format of this report should either be a balance sheet or a financial income statement.
