Computer-Based Testing vs. Paper-and-Pencil-Based Testing

The ASIS certification examinations consist of objective, multiple-choice questions of the four responses, one and only one of which is correct. Because the final score will be based on the number of questions marked correctly, there is no penalty for guessing. It is to the applicant's advantage to answer every question.

Pencil-and-Paper-Based Testing

The International CPP™, International PSP™, and all PCI™ examinations are "Pencil-and-Paper"-based, meaning that they will be comprised of a test booklet containing multiple-choice questions. Test-takers will record their answers on a separate answer sheet.

After completion, the answer sheet is machine-scored by the testing service. Candidates will be informed of their score within 20 business days of taking the exam.

Computer-Based-Testing

US and Canadian applicants for the CPP™ and PSP™ designations take their exams using an electronic testing system that eliminates the use of paper and pencil answer sheets. A keyboard or mouse will be used to answer examination questions presented on the computer screen. The computer will store responses and automatically time the examination. The time remaining and the number of the question currently being answered will be on the computer screen. Answers can be changed, skipped and marked for review.

No prior computer experience is necessary to complete the electronic CPP™ and PSP™ examinations. The testing agency will provide simple, easy-to-follow instructions to complete the examination.

Upon completion of the exam, results will be automatically generated at the test location to provide candidates with immediate scores that will serve as preliminary, or unofficial, results.
