Basic Information

What is computer-based testing?

Computer-based testing is simply the administering of an examination using an electronic question-answer-and-score format. Individuals interested in sitting for the exams only need to contact a testing representative through their local Prometric test center.

How are the computer-based tests administered?

The examination will be administered by computer on an electronic testing system that eliminates the use of paper and pencil sheets. A keyboard or mouse will be used to answer examination questions presented on the computer screen. The computer will store responses and automatically time the examination. The time remaining and the number of the question currently being answered will be on the computer screen. Answers can be changed, skipped and marked for review.

How much computer experience is required for computer-based testing?

No prior computer experience is necessary to complete the electronic examination. The computer-based testing provides simple, easy-to-follow instructions to complete the examination.

What are the benefits of computer-based testing?

  • Unofficial score reports are generated on-site, before you leave the testing facility.
  • Testing centers are almost everywhere internationally, making the examination more accessible for candidates.
  • There is no financial penalty for canceling or changing test reservations up to three days prior to test date.

Application Processing

What will the application process entail?

All applications must be submitted to the ASIS Certification Department. The application review process will take approximately 3-4 weeks. Candidates should apply 8 weeks prior to their chosen exam month or they will be automatically rolled over to the next available testing window. See guide below for testing window dates and suggested application submission time frame:

Testing is administered Monday through Saturday

Can I take the Canadian, UK, or U.S. CPP exam in another country?

If testing in another country, ensure you schedule your appointment to test early enough to fit into that locations testing window. International testing centers are not continuous in every country. If candidates miss their testing window, their information must be resubmitted for the next available window.

Will I still have the opportunity to test at the ASIS Annual Seminar and Exhibits?

ASIS will no longer administer any tests during the Annual Seminar.

How much does it cost to take the exam?

The CBT exam cost is $300 for members and $450 for non-members USD and the retest fee is $200. Candidates who have already paid the current paper and pencil retest fee of $100 do not have to pay an additional cost. The cut off date for candidates to retest under the old fee is July 1.

What if I decide not to test?

If candidates are found ineligible or decide not to test, they may request that their test fee be refunded. However, the application fee (which is $100) is non-refundable.

Exam Reservation

How can I reserve a test date and location?

Once you receive an authorization to test letter from ASIS, candidates may arrange for a test date and location by contacting the Prometric Technology Center for their respective region. International test center locations and contact information will be available online at www.Prometric.com at the end of April. Please note: Prometric is currently conducting staff training so that they can appropriately handle and direct CBT inquiries. The training process will be completed by the end of April 2009. Please do not contact the Prometric sites until they have completed their staff training.

A representative at Prometric's Candidate Service Center will help candidates select the optimal test date and test location, provide specific instructions and directions, and answer any questions about the testing process. The representative will also give candidates a confirmation number, which must be taken with them to the testing center when they sit for the exam.

Exam Reconfirmation and Cancellation

How can I reconfirm my test date?

Appointments can be reconfirmed using the confirmation number received when appointment was scheduled through Prometric.

How can I cancel a scheduled exam?

If candidates are unable to take the examination on the scheduled date, they must notify Prometric at least three business days in advance. Failure to do so will result in the candidate's inability to schedule any future appointments, until ASIS has been contacted and another $200 testing fee has been paid. Prometric permits NO exceptions to this rule.

Exam Administration Procedures

What must I take to the testing center?

Upon arrival at the test center candidates must report to the test center manager and present the following:

  • Two forms of identification, one of which is photo-bearing; both must have candidate's signature.
  • The confirmation number given when your examination reservation was made.

How long will I have to test?

Four hours is available to complete the CPP examination and two and a half for the PCI and PSP examinations. At the end of this time, the test taker's computer screen will indicate that time has expired. The test center manager should be notified and the candidate will sign out.

Can answers be changed once selected?

Candidates may change answers as often as desired and may also skip or return to questions at a later time. The amount of time spent completing the demographic questions will not reduce the time allotted for the examination.

When can I expect my exam results?

  • After completing the exam, results will be automatically generated at the test location and candidates will be provided with unofficial preliminary scores. Scoring becomes official only when PES has completed their scoring process.
  • If candidates do not pass the exam, they will not earn the designation. Candidates may take the examination a total of three times in the two-year period beginning with the date on their approval letter. A three-month period must elapse between the first and second exams; six months must pass between the second and third administrations. After the third administration candidates may submit a new application three years from your last testing date.
  • All details pertaining to requests and results concerning certification will be handled on a confidential basis. The awarding of certification to successful candidates will be published.
