The Professional Certification Board (PCB) was established by ASIS to elevate the professional standing of the security profession and improve the practice of security through testing and certification of individuals meeting prescribed eligibility standards.
All PCB members, including the President, are appointed by the President of ASIS. PCB members serve on the board for a maximum of three two-year terms. The president of the PCB serves a single one-year term.
The president appoints his or her vice president and all committee chairs and members. The board meets three times per year; other functions such as question-writing are performed by volunteer CPPs® who are trained and supervised by ASIS' testing service, PES.
Applications for the three certifications are screened by ASIS staff members, but the PCB steps in to make any eligibilty rulings on questionable applications. If a rejected applicant wishes to appeal, he or she is heard by a PCB committee and then, if necessary, by the entire PCB.
ASIS contracts with PES, a professional testing service, to provide services related to conceptualizing, developing, scoring and administering all certifications' examinations. This process is overseen by the Test Management Committee.
The PCB created a full set of disciplinary rules and procedures to deal with allegations of violations of PCB Code of Professional Responsibility. This process includes the use of a Board of Review.
